Mariners Spending Drought

It appears the M's will only have $20 million dollars to spend this offseason! Yup, you heard that right...20 million dollars!!? In a story published today on the Seattle Times by Adam Jude, it's implied and suggested that's all they will have to improve their club this season. If that indeed is the case, than the Mariners 2024 season is very much in trouble and may be over before it even gets started.

Why?

Well, they spent $16.9 million dollars last year on Kolton Wong, A.J. Pollock, Tommy LaStella and Cooper Hummel.

Wong: $8.2 million. In the trade, the Mariners received $1.75 million from Milwaukee.

Pollock: $7 million

LaStella: $720,000

Hummel : $723,000

Those three players provided near to nothing to the team this past season and that's nearly the same amount that this years team will have to spend.

What's more troubling is the depth and health of their starting pitching. Especially if they trade from that group to make their offense better. The projected starters heading into next season are: Luis Castillo, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo. Eventually you will have Robbie Ray, but that's months into the season. Emerson Hancock was placed on the 60-day DL last August with arm issues. Who knows if he'll be ready to go??

We'll discuss all of this tomorrow on the show. It's a short one tomorrow as we are on from just 10am-12pm. Off early because Jess and Gregg Bell are covering the Army/Navy game live from Boston.
