This Soccer Player Is Coming Back To The Sounders FC

Fredy Montero is back with the Seattle Sounders FC.

The team announced Thursday (March 9) that it signed the forward player for one year, including club options in 2022 and 2023, according to KIRO 7. Montero is scheduled to join the club in the pre-season after mandatory quarantine and COVID-19 testing protocols, a press release said.

Reporters said he played with the Sounders between 2009 and 2012. The Colombian player spent three out of four seasons with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, tallying 26 goals and 14 assists with the team.

"Montero won the Sounders FC’s Golden Boot in each of the club’s first three MLS seasons. He also led the Rave Green in scoring each year from 2009-2011, recording double-digit goal totals in each of his four seasons," KIRO 7 wrote.

Brian Schmetzer, the Sounders FC head coach, said in the release he had "a lot of fond memories of Fredy Montero in a Sounders jersey."

“I’m pleased to welcome him back to the club,” Schmetzer said. “He has always been a dynamic attacker with a strong finishing touch. I’m always happy to have players that can score goals and am looking forward to getting him on the training pitch as our 2021 preparations ramp up.”

Montero tweeted this message on Thursday:

"Hi, Sounders fans... My family and I are really happy to stay in town. We have so many good memories here, and I can't wait to make more. So stay healthy, and we'll see you soon."
