Seattle Storm Keeps The Spirit Of The City In New Logo

Take cover because the Seattle Storm has a new look.

The women's basketball team revealed the new design Tuesday (March 2). "A force to be reckoned with," the official account tweeted along with a video showcasing the updated logo.

They ditched the cartoony design and keeping its core features and colors: green, yellow and white. The Space Needle is still front and center along with a green thunderbolt and a basketball design behind it. The pointed top is also a homage to the peak of Mount Rainier.

The original brand first appeared when the team made its WNBA debut in 2000, according to the Seattle Times.

"The original logo... featured the colors green, maroon, bronze and white and took many cues from the design used at that time by its NBA brethren, the former Seattle Sonics," the Times wrote. "The Storm adopted the green, gold and white color scheme in 2001 and has maintained its look since."

New merchandise featuring the Storm's new logo is on sale as well at the team's online store.
