Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was released from jail early, according to records obtained by TMZ Sports.
Cutler, 42, the ex-husband of reality star Kristin Cavallari, was booked into Williamson County Jail on Monday (September 29) as part of a four-day jail sentence for his 2024 DUI misdemeanor arrest, but was instead released Wednesday (October 1) night after about two-and-a-half days. The former quarterback was serving the sentence as part of a plea deal reached with prosecutors that dismissed the additional weapons charge in relation to his misdemeanor DUI arrest.
Cutler was reported to have bloodshot eyes and slurring his words when police spoke to him at the scene on October 17, having allegedly told officers he had "a little bit" when asked if he consumed alcohol and refused a field sobriety test, having his blood drawn for a test sample at a nearby hospital. The 42-year-old was found to have a rifle and a loaded glock inside his vehicle at the time of his arrest.
Cutler was a Pro Bowler in 2008 and selected as one of the 100 greatest Chicago Bears of All-Time during the team's centennial anniversary in 2019, ranking first in franchise history for passing yards (23,444), passing touchdowns (154) and QB wins (51). The Indiana native finished his 12-year NFL career with 35,133 yards, 227 touchdowns and 160 interceptions on 3,048 of 4,920 passing.
Cutler was selected by the Denver Broncos at No. 11 overall in the 2006 NFL Draft and spent his first three seasons with the franchise before being traded to the Bears in 2009. The former Vanderbilt standout initially retired in May 2017 before signing with the Miami Dolphins months later for one final season.
Cutler and Cavallari, who finalized their divorce in 2022, share three children with and the former quarterback regularly appeared on her E! series Very Cavallari during their marriage.
