RENTON -- The Seattle Seahawks ruled out five players for Monday night's game against the Washington Football Team, including starting left guard Damien Lewis due to an elbow injury.

In addition to Lewis, the Seahawks ruled out backup lineman Jamarco Jones (back), and running backs Rashaad Penny (hamstring) and Travis Homer (calf). Cornerback Tre Brown is out for the season with a knee injury and was placed on injured reserve on Saturday afternoon along with Jones.

Guard Phil Haynes was signed off the practice squad and cornerback Nigel Warrior was activated from injured reserve to fill the two open roster spots.

Lewis hyperextended his elbow in last week's game against the Arizona Cardinals. While he was able to finish the contest, head coach Pete Carroll said Saturday that the injury was really bothering him this week.

"It’s just really sore, so we are giving him a break on that to get him back and get him to full speed," Carroll said.

Haynes comes off the practice squad and would be an option to take over the starting job in Lewis' place this week against Washington. Carroll said that Kyle Fuller, who started seven games at center for Seattle earlier this season, would also be an option at the position.

"He is one of the options there, we have a couple of different things that we can do there, but Kyle has played the most and we like the fact that he has been on the field a lot," Carroll said.

Jones' back issues have been ongoing and ultimately have gotten to a point where he's unable to keep playing at the moment.

"It flared back up again when he landed kind of funny a week ago and it hasn’t loosened up for him, so he’s dealing with spasms that seems to be more than that. It’s more than muscle spasms, so we are working with him to try to get him back and get him right," Carroll said.

"He’s had a hard time staying healthy, I feel terrible for him. He’s been in and out for some time now. He’s done well when he’s had his chance to play, but he hasn’t been able to get over this yet, so we will take a little more time to get that done.”

With both Penny and Homer out this week, Carroll said they could bring undrafted rookie Josh Johnson up from the practice squad.

"He’s been a real attack kind of guy," Carroll said of Johnson. "He hits the line of scrimmage really hard. If you remember from pre-season, the few chances he got, he catches the ball really well, one of the best catchers that we have. He’s a physical kid, low to the ground a little bit, a little lower makeup than some of the guys, but he has a really physical style to him that we like.”

Johnson had 23 carries for 74 yards during the preseason for Seattle.

Cornerback D.J. Reed is not on the final injury report and is set to return to action this week after missing last week's game against the Cardinals due to a groin injury.

Warrior was claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens by Seattle during roster cuts at the end of August. He has been on injured reserve the entire season and returned to practice alongside Carson and quarterback Russell Wilson on Nov. 8. He needed to be activated or would have had to remain on injured reserve for the rest of the year.
