Reports: Seahawks acquire G Gabe Jackson in trade with Raiders

Oakland Raiders v New York Jets

The Seattle Seahawks have added guard Gabe Jackson in a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, according to multiple reports.

The Seahawks are reportedly sending a 2021 fifth-round pick to the Raiders to acquire the seven-year veteran offensive lineman.

Jackson has spent his entire career with the Raiders. He was a left guard when he entered the league as a third-round pick out of Mississippi State in 2014. After two seasons of strong play on the left side of the line, the Raiders signed Kelechi Osemele in free agency away from the Baltimore Ravens and asked Jackson to move to the right side instead.

It's been five years since Jackson played on the left side of the line, but that option would seemingly be available to Seattle with last year's draft pick Damien Lewis in place on the right side. The Seahawks could theoretically move Lewis to the left side and keep Jackson on the right side as well, but either choice would seem to be possible.

The trade leaves the Seahawks with just three selections in next month's NFL Draft. They have picks in the second, fourth, and seventh rounds remaining after multiple trades in recent years depleted their supply. Part of the reasoning Seattle had for making the trade for Jamal Adams last year was that the draft class in 2021 would have less supply, be more difficult to evaluate, have some players that didn't play last year due to COVID-19 and more fallout from the ongoing pandemic.

Four spots on Seattle's offensive line appear to be set with Duane Brown and Brandon Shell at tackle, and Jackson and Lewis at guard. With Ethan Pocic being a free agent, the Seahawks only hole on the offensive line would seem to at center. Kyle Fuller is on the roster and served as a fill-in starter last season when Pocic was out. Lewis also made one start at center in place of both Pocic and Fuller.
