Carlos Dunlap active for Seahawks; Brandon Shell, Cedric Ogbuehi out

Seattle Seahawks v Arizona Cardinals

Defensive end Carlos Dunlap is active and will play for the Seahawks against the New York Giants despite a foot injury. However, tackles Brandon Shell and Cedric Ogbuehi are both out, leaving right tackle a potential area of concern for Sunday's matchup.

Shell was expected to miss the game due to a high-ankle sprain sustained two weeks ago. However, Ogbuehi's absence is a bit more surprising. Ogbuehi started last week's game against the Philadelphia Eagles in place of Shell and was in line to start again against the Giants. However, he was unable to participate in practice on Friday due to a calf injury that needed to be wrapped with ice early in practice during the segment open to reporters.

Head coach Pete Carroll had somewhat downplayed this issue at the time and said they were just resting him because of the calf. However, they elevated tackle Chad Wheeler from the practice squad on Saturday as additional depth at the spot and he'll be needed with the top two options out.

It's not totally clear if Jamarco Jones or Wheeler will get the start at right tackle against the Giants. Jones has been a part of the regular rotation at guard but was a tackle in college at Ohio State and has played some outside with Seattle as well.

Dunlap has helped spark Seattle's pass rush since his acquisition from the Cincinnati Bengals at the end of October. He played just over half of the game against the Eagles last week before being sidelined. An MRI showed the issue to his foot wasn't significant and his availability against the Giants is a good sign.

Cornerback Tre Flowers was placed on injured reserve on Saturday otherwise he would have been one of Seattle's inactive players as well. Flowers came out of last week's victory over the Eagles with tightness in his hamstring.

"It's not a serious hamstring injury but it's enough to really bother him this week and then to expect for him to turn around and bounce back around on this week is a lot to expect," Carroll said on Friday.

Flowers will miss at least three games while on the injured list. D.J. Reed will start at right cornerback in his place with Linden Stephens and Jayson Stanley as reserves.

Running back Travis Homer is the other player out due to injury as wrist, hand, and knee injuries will keep him out for a third game. Carlos Hyde is active and will play despite a toe injury. He was listed as questionable but Carroll said Friday he would be playing against the Giants.

Guard Phil Haynes and defensive end Jonathan Bullard are the other two inactives for Seattle.

The Giants will be without starting quarterback Daniel Jones because of a hamstring injury. Colt McCoy will make the start for the Giants in Jones' place. It's just McCoy's second start against the Seahawks in his career and his first in Seattle. He was the starter for the Cleveland Browns in an ugly 6-3 victory over the Seahawks in 2011 in Cleveland.
