Adams, Carson, Mayowa among inactives for Seahawks vs. 49ers

New England Patriots v Seattle Seahawks

It's a wounded Seahawks team that will be hosting the San Francisco 49ers Sunday afternoon.

Seattle will be without six starters for the game against their NFC West divisional rivals due to the cascade of injuries.

Running back Chris Carson, safety Jamal Adams and defensive end Benson Mayowa all were declared inactive for the game after being listed as questionable on Friday. Cornerback Shaquill Griffin had already been ruled out due to a concussion. Meanwhile, left guard Mike Iupati and starting nickel cornerback Ugo Amadi are also out after being doubtful to play.

Carson, backup Carlos Hyde and third-straight running back Travis Homer were all dealing with injuries this week. Hyde was also ruled out due to a hamstring strain. Carson is out with a mid-foot sprain sustained last week against the Arizona Cardinals. Homer will play but Seattle is thin at the running back position as only Homer and rookie DeeJay Dallas are active for the contest against the 49ers. Seattle will need to get creative beyond that to find available running backs should it become necessary.

Seattle is also hurting in the secondary. With Adams, Griffin and Amadi all out, the team activated cornerback D.J. Reed from the non-football injury list and elevated cornerback Jayson Stanley from the practice squad as depth for the cornerback spot. Quinton Dunbar and Tre Flowers will start with Linden Stephens having been the only other healthy cornerback on the roster prior to the moves on Saturday.

Mayowa will also miss the game due to an ankle injury coming out of last week's game. Seattle elevated rookie converted defensive end Stephen Sullivan from the practice squad to help dealing with the depth issues there. Sullivan was a wide receiver/tight end for LSU last year and had made the switch to defense in recent weeks in practice due to Seattle having a glut of tight ends available. The Seahawks have struggled to find a pass rush all season and will now call upon a converted end with a depleted secondary to try and find some against the 49ers.

Seattle also activated rookie tight end Colby Parkinson from the non-football injury list on Saturday and he is active for his first game.

The 49ers have been banged up throughout the season as well and will be missing some key players for the game as well. Wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Richie James are out with injuries. Safety Jaquiski Tartt and linebacker Kwon Alexander are also out with injuries.
