The Seattle Seahawks were the last team across the NFL to announce their roster cuts and were beaten to the punch by the league transaction wire for yet another year.
Some of the notable moves made by the team included the release of linebacker Shaquem Griffin after two seasons with the team. Also, former seventh-round picks defensive tackle Demarcus Christmas (2019) and tight end Stephen Sullivan (2020) were among the players waived by Seattle.
Fullback Nick Bellore and wide receiver Paul Richardson each had their veteran contracts terminated by the team as well.
Richardson had barely practiced with the team after signing last week and head coach Pete Carroll's comments on him from Thursday weren't promising.
"It's been tough for Paul," Carroll said. "He just hasn't had a chance yet. he comes in from home and we're going at such a clip right now that we wanted to make sure and get him started. Today was really the only day he really got to practice. He went through individual and the early parts of practice but he took some team reps today for the first time. So it's very difficult for (Paul) to show where he is and all that.
"We do know him really well, we love the kid and the way he plays and all that so it just wasn't much of a ramp for him to show where he is."
Bellore was released during cut down weekend last year as well before returning to the team in short order. A similar process could be playing out for him this year.
Rookie defensive end Darrell Taylor and tight end Colby Parkinson, along with cornerback D.J. Reed will all begin the season on the non-football injury list. Running back Rashaad Penny is on the physically unable to perform list.
All four will be eligible to return after the first six weeks of the season.
Center Kyle Fuller transitions to the suspended list as he will miss the first two games of the season. He joins wide receiver Josh Gordon on the list as he remains indefinitely suspended by the NFL.
