Chris Carson, Quinton Dunbar return to practice field for Seahawks

RENTON -- The Seattle Seahawks had a couple key contributors return to the practice field on Sunday.

Running back Chris Carson was back at practice after missing the first three days of practices to attend to some significant family matters at home.

"Chris has got some family stuff going on that he’s had to take care of," head coach Pete Carroll said of the situation after practice on Wednesday. "Our hearts go out to Chris. He’s going through some really big stuff with family members that he’s looking after and taking care of. He’s fine and all that. It has nothing to do with Chris personally, physically. But he has to do this at this time right now. I’m not sure how many more days it’s going to be before he takes care of all that business but they’re trying to figure it all out. It’s back home too so it’s a ways away so we’ve got some stuff to work out and we’re in full support of what he has to do to get this done."

It was Carson's first time on the practice field since he sustained a non-displaced hip fracture in a December game against the Arizona Cardinals last season that ended his year with the team. With no offseason program due to COVID-19, it was Carson's first chance to practice since his injury last year.

Meanwhile, cornerback Quinton Dunbar has cleared the intake protocols to join the team after being removed from the Commissioner's Exempt List. Dunbar had been placed on the list while a court case was ongoing in Broward County, Florida after he and New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker were accused of an armed robbery at a house party in May.

The case against Dunbar was dropped due to insufficient evidence and Dunbar was removed from the list last week. He then had to undergo the multi-stage COVID-19 testing intake process that consists of three tests over five days before being allowed to join the team. Dunbar did take part in early individual drills with the Seahawks for the first time on Sunday.

Defensive tackles Jarran Reed and Poona Ford both were sidelined for Sunday's practice after both appeared to sustain injuries during practice on Friday. Also sitting out of Sunday's practice were wide receivers David Moore and Freddie Swain and cornerback D.J. Reed.

Tight end Colby Parkinson defensive end Darrell Taylor remain on the non-football injury list and running back Rashaad Penny is on the physically unable to perform list.

The team also waived rookie defensive end Marcus Webb from the non-football injury list prior to practice.
