Chuck Knocks: Week 14 New York Jets

"Chuck Knocks" is back for another season, but for the first time in five years our Seahawk Opponent Training Camp Previews will live on our website. Fear not, The Feltsulator is coming with us to the website. Game by game, Jackson Felts will simulate the entire 2020 season (not sure he can take the fans out of the stands, so sorry about the lack of authenticity). I'll handle the rest...

WEEK 14 (GAME 13): NEW YORK JETS

THE INTERESTING SCALE: D+

An A+ on the scale if you find car crashes and burning buildings interesting. Despite going 6-2 during the second half of last season, the Jets feel like they're on a familiar path. And if the team repeats 7-9, having lost another top pick to trade demands, HC Adam Gase can't return in 2021.

THE NEW FACE AT JETS CAMP: BRADLEY MCDOUGALD

Not even the most optimistic of Jets fans expects Bradley McDougald to fill the enormous shoes of brand new Seahawk Jamal Adams. But by being the only living piece heading to the Jets in the deal, McDougald will serve as a daily reminder of the Pro Bowler who forced his way out of town. The primary components of the trade GM Joe Douglas claimed was 'too good to pass up' will be known in time, and may very well pay big dividends for Jets football. For now, they're just ghosts.

STAR OF JETS CAMP: LE'VEON BELL

Seems like a good time to remind you that in Chuck Knocks' terminology, the star of camp is not necessarily the best player. Our "star" is the person who commands the most attention at camp. After missing all of 2018, and rushing for fewer than 800 yards as a first year Jet the following season, the 28-year old Bell has to show that he can still run the football. Now, let's be clear about something: Bell received NO help from his offensive line last season, but with a first round pick spent on a new LT and big free agent money spent on a new RT (George Fant), the expectation for Bell will be to produce--no excuses. Whether Bell does or doesn't, he's going to talk. And let's not forget, his head coach never wanted him to begin with.

FANTASY PICK: BRESHAD PERRIMAN

Man, I wanted the Seahawks to add Breshad Perriman in the offseason. Not that the Hawks needed him; I just wanted him. At 6'2", 215 with blazing speed, Perriman is a former first round pick who was chosen for his upside. Problem was he couldn't play football. However, something kicked in for the 26-year old last season. Filling in for an injured Chris Godwin, he finished the year with three consecutive 100 yard games and caught everything Jameis Winston threw his way. I think Perriman may be on the verge of something special, and the Jets got him for cheap.

OUTLOOK: 7-9

The national pundits seem torn on third-year quarterback Sam Darnold. His 2019 numbers, and wild inconsistency, suggest he's still a long way from living up to his draft day promise. And yet, many believe he's on the verge of a breakout. If that's true, the Jets can surprise. I suspect a step forward and nothing more. And a step forward for Darnold gets you 7-9.

JETS AT SEAHAWKS: WHAT WILL WE BE SAYING MONDAY MORNING?

"The Adams Bowl wasn't without its intrigue. As expected, the woofing started early and didn't relent. I thought the Hawks were going to lose Adams. Refs showed great restraint to keep Jamal and Le'Veon in the game... Bell ran hard. And they weren't shy about his usage. He just couldn't get it going. 27 carries for 79 yards isn't anything you brag to the grandchildren about. But the other option was Darnold whose two interceptions put the Jets in the hole they never completely dug out of... Felt like another of those Pete Carroll games that was unnecessarily close in the fourth quarter. Why call off the dogs? You're at home. Russell is "cooking". Instead, Schotty is turning to Carlos Hyde for crucial carries in the fourth... Lockett played another good game: 5 catches 86 yards 1 TD... Two straight weeks of putting solid pressure on the quarterback, led by Rasheem Green... In the end, it was enough. The Jets just aren't good. And we don't care. Needed a win. 30-20 will get it done."

Let's check out the Feltsulator. You might notice something strange. THE SAFETIES WILL BE PLAYING FOR THE WRONG TEAMS!!!!

After a relatively comfortable win over the Giants, the 9-3 Feltsulator Seahawks host New York's other team, the Jets, and Sam "41 Yards" Darnold. That's for you, Softy, and you'll be happy to know Russell Wilson and Chris Carson dominate the opening drive, marching 75 yards for six on a rushing touchdown by Carson. After a Darnold interception and Carson fumble, Le'Veon Bell then stunned Seattle with a 69 yard touchdown run, equalizing the game at seven. As the battle moved from the first to second quarter, Jason Myers hit two field goals to regain and extend the lead. And after another Jets punt, Russell Wilson marched Seattle down the field then hit Greg Olsen on a 21 yard touchdown pass to give the Seahawks a 20-7 lead. New York would grab a field goal as time expired in the first half.

Somebody got in Darnold's face during the break because he came out firing in the second half. A 75 yard drive and touchdown pass to Bell cut Seattle's lead to 20-17. Back to back punts sent us to the fourth quarter where Wilson took over again. With 10 minutes left in the game #3 hit Phillip Dorsett in the back of the endzone to extend the lead to 10 (video below). A three and out by the Jets then led to one of the best drives you'll ever see. Carson ran 12 times, Wilson had just three completions, and Seattle took the remaining nine minutes off the clock to run out the game and win 27-17, advancing the Feltsulator Seahawks to 10-3 on the year.

Stats:

Russell Wilson: 24 of 32 for 268 yards and 2 TD

Sam Darnold: 15 of 28 for 214 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT

Chris Carson: 34 rushes for 135 yards and 1 TD

Le'Veon Bell: 11 rushes for 92 yards and 1 TD

Phillip Dorsett: 6 catches for 69 yards and 1 TD

DK Metcalf: 6 catches for 80 yards"
