The Seattle Seahawks have acquired All-Pro safety Jamal Adams from the New York Jets in a deal that included Bradley McDougald and four total draft selections changing hands.
The move was first reported by Brian Costello of the New York Post.
Seattle gets Adams from the Jets in exchange for McDougald, two first-round draft picks (2021, 2022) and a 2021 third-round pick. The Jets are sending Adams to Seattle along with a 2022 fourth-round pick.
Adams, who turns 25 in October, has two years remaining on his rookie contract after the Jets exercised the fifth-year option on his deal. However, Adams had been vocal about wanting a new contract from the team and had been critical of the franchise and ownership of the Jets throughout the offseason.
Adams had formally requested a trade last month.
Adams was the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and has started 46 games for the Jets over the last three seasons. He has twice been named to the Pro Bowl, was a second-team All Pro selection 2018 and was a first-team selection last year. For his career, Adams has 75 tackles, 6.5 sacks an interception and two forced fumbles.
Under John Schneider and Pete Carroll, the Seahawks had previously used first-round draft picks as part of the packages to acquire Percy Harvin from the Minnesota Vikings in 2013 and Jimmy Graham from the New Orleans Saints in 2015. They also have made a sizable deal with the Jets before when they traded a second-round pick and Jermaine Kearse to the team in 2017 in exchange fro Sheldon Richardson.
The deal is pending physicals.
