Husky Football Coach Chris Petersen Steps Down; Jimmy Lake New Head Coach

In a surprise announcement Monday, the Washington Huskies gave the news that Chris Petersen stepped down from his role as head coach of the Huskies football team. Petersen is reportedly going to transition into a leadership advisory role at Washington.

Petersen, who came over to Montlake in 2014, leaves the University of Washington with a 54-26 record, two Pac-12 titles and a 2016 College Football Playoff berth.

Jimmy Lake, who has been co-defensive coordinator alongside Pete Kwiatkowski, will take over as the head coach of the Huskies. Lake started his tenure under Petersen as a defensive backs coach.

A formal announcement to promote Lake is expected to take place Tuesday morning.
