Notes: Seahawks TE Ed Dickson undergoes knee surgery

Kansas City Chiefs v Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks tight end Ed Dickson underwent knee surgery and is expected to miss the preseason, coach Pete Carroll said today. He is expected back in four to five weeks.

Additionally, quarterback Geno Smith will start the Seahawks' preseason opener on Thursday night against the Broncos, then will have an unspecified procedure, coach Carroll said.

Coach Carroll elaborated, saying he will have more information after the game. Geno Smith did not practice today, but should be available for their second preseason game against the Vikings on August 18th.

"He's got an issue that we're dealing with that we're going to tend to after the game," Carroll said. "He's going to play in the game. He's going to start the game and get a chance to play some good football for us, but we're going to fix him up after that."

Russel Wilson will not play on Thursday, after playing in every preseason opener since his rookie season in 2012.

There's no time frame when defensive end LJ Collier will be back. Coach Carroll noted he's out of boot and moving.

DK Metcalf will play Thursday.

Also scheduled to not play on Thursday: CJ Prosise, Travis Homer, Will Dissly, Jacob Hollister & Delano Hill.
