On Thursday afternoon, the Seattle Seahawks announced that the organization has terminated the contracts of two team legends, Kam Chancellor and Doug Baldwin (failed physical). For Kam, many knew his career was likely over after a major neck injury in 2017. The former safety stayed around the team helping players and working as a pseudo-coach.
In the case of Baldwin, when the wide receiver joined Cliff Avril last month, he announced that he had more surgeries on the way this off-season. Reports emerged that Baldwin was considering retirement, and with the contract termination today, this could be the end of Baldwin's career. Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network Tweeted, "Baldwin is leaning toward retirement. A release allows him to keep his signing bonus and possibly future injury-protection money."
