Ladies and gentlemen, we have a Seahawks kicking competition on our hands. Shortly after the season ended, Seattle signed Jason Myers to a futures contract looking ahead as an option for the 2018 season.
Myers has spent his last, and only, three years in the NFL with Jacksonville making 64 of 79 field goal attempts (81%) and 76 of his 88 extra point attempts (86.4%). But now, the Seattle Seahawks have added another kicking option for next season... The Polish Cannon.
Yes, Sebastian Janikowski is a member of the Seahawks. The kicker signed a one year contract with today with Seattle. The Polish Cannon was drafted in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders out of Florida State and was an automatic three points from almost anywhere in opposing territory until a back injury in 2017.
Janikowski currently holds the NFL record for most 50+ yard field goals at 55. Throughout his career, he has made 80.4% of his field goal attempts and over 98% of his extra point attempts, most coming when the extra point kicks came from the two-yard-line, not where it current sits at the 15.
Janikowski and Myers will now compete for the kicking job in Seattle next season. Who are you rooting for?
