Seahawks add linebackers Michael Wilhoite, Terence Garvin

The Seahawks' continued search for linebacker depth has led to a pair of additions at the position.

The team is signing former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Michael Wilhoite and former Washington Redskins linebacker Terence Garvin.

The Seahawks have officially announced the signing of Wilhoite. Garvin's agreement was reported by Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

Wilhoite has appeared in 65 games with San Francisco over the last five seasons and has started 34 games in the last three seasons. However, unless he can transition to playing strong-side linebacker in Seattle’s 4-3 scheme, Wilhoite is joining the Seahawks as a backup to Bobby Wagner and special teams contributor.

However, there is at least one indication that could be the plan for Wilhoite.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Wilhoite's deal is worth $1.55 million with a $500,000 signing bonus, $800,000 base salary and $250,000 in per game roster bonuses. It also contains $450,000 in incentives.

That's a large contract for a player that could be just a backup linebacker. It indicates Seattle's role could be somewhat larger for Wilhoite.

Garvin has played parts of four seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Redskins. After three seasons with Pittsburgh, Garvin played last year in Washington.

Garvin has appeared in 59 games with one start in four seasons. He's recorded 52 tackles with 0.5 sacks.

Wilhoite and Garvin join Arthur Brown as signings made by Seattle at the linebacker position this offseason.
