Calgary Flames rookie forward Martin Pospisil will face the NHL Department of Player Safety for a hearing on Wednesday, following a hit delivered to Kraken defenseman Vince Dunn on Monday night in a 4-2 Kraken win at Calgary, the league's department announced on Tuesday.
Pospisil was penalized with a five minute major for checking to the head and a game misconduct with 6:19 left in the game after his hit on Dunn into the end boards, 15 feet to the left of Philipp Grubauer's blocker side post.
Dunn did not return to the game following the hit and Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol had no update on Dunn immediately after the game, but was was asked by reporters about the hit.
"Garbage," said Hakstol.
"But really not a whole lot different than the first hit, six, seven seconds into the game."
That event referred to another hit that Pospisil delivered on Adam Larsson on the first shift of Monday night's game, when Pospisil forcefully drove his body into Larsson, who was sent head-first into the boards. No penalty was called on the play, and rookie forward Tye Kartye dropped the gloves with Pospisil later, 7:14 into the second period. Both players were issued roughing penalties.
"He laid a hit earlier in the game that we didn't agree with," said forward Jared McCann. "(Kartye) stepping in showed that we're a tight knight group and we're going to stick up for each other."
Pospisil has 15 points and 72 penalty minutes in 45 games as a rookie. His hearing on Wednesday will the first time he faces potential supplemental discipline in his NHL career.
The Kraken will visit the Winnipeg Jets, ending a back-to-back set on the road Tuesday night at 5pm PT.
